Sponsored by: TADAMS (Traditional American Dance and Music Society)
Back by popular demand! This afternoon introduction to calling contra dances is for all dancers, musicians, or wanna-be callers. If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to be a dance caller, here is your chance to find out more, and give it a try.
Please arrive 10 minutes early. The workshop will start promptly at 2:00pm. Please RSVP to allbrandt@cox.net so we know how many to expect. Dancers are welcome to help us practice, 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Some of the topics we will cover: how dance music is structured, how dances fit the music, placing calls in time to the music, the importance of the walk through, and how to choose dances to call.
Even if you don’t plan to get in front of the microphone, you’re welcome to come learn more about the caller’s job. It could even improve your dancing or dance-playing skills!
To practice calling, we’ll need dancers! Invite your friends to come dance with us from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. And stick around for our regular dance starting at 7:30pm.
